Daedalus contributions to UCB/LBNL/VINT Network Simulator - ns (version 2) Ns development is ongoing. We've included the daily snapshot as of 8/19/98. 1. Developed the framework for creating local area networks (LAN) - Extended the link layer - Added the MAC layer with many MAC models - Added the physical layer 2. Developed error models - constant rate and Markov 3. Added variable tracing capability 4. Added HTTP traffic generator for background "web-like" traffic 5. Ported and debugged TCP variants from ns-1 to ns-2 6. Contributed new API for the simulator (interface between agents and applications) 7. Added modules for snoop, modelling and analysis of media access asymmetry, ack filtering 8. Added techniques for improving the performance of Web access, and separately, asymmetric networks: a. TCP session: integrated congestion control and loss recovery. b. TCP fast start: faster connection start up. c. TCP asym: optimizations for asymmetric networks. 9. Added support for various buffer management and queuing disciplines, including priority drop, random drop and priority scheduling.
